The Deputy Chief of Service Planning is a critical leadership position responsible for leading the design of Valley Metro’s on-street transit system; service planning and scheduling; and geographic information systems (GIS) functions. A senior leader within the Valley Metro team, the Deputy Chief of Service Planning is responsible for representing Valley Metro with internal and external stakeholders and serves as a liaison to member communities, the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) and the Federal Transit Administration.

Duties to include supervising projects and activities to ensure adherence to schedule, budget, quality and timely delivery; supporting preparation of the annual Division budget to assure adequate resources are available; managing and supervising staff; and ensuring strong communication and coordination among internal and external parties.

As a leader in the Valley Metro organization, the Deputy Chief of Service Planning is instrumental in the delivery of strategic initiatives and providing an excellent customer experience for both internal and external customers.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Urban Planning, Engineering, Public Administration or a related field.
Eight years of progressively responsible professional and management experience, including five years at the management level.
Candidates may present an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties.
A master’s degree and certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners is desirable.
