The Assistant Superintendent of Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) Maintenance plays a key leadership role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of LRV operations. This position assists with managing preventive maintenance programs, inspections, and servicing of LRVs and equipment, while also administering budgets, developing and implementing maintenance policies, and optimizing resources. Additionally, the role involves supervising staff, implementing best practices, and ensuring compliance with all regulations. Supervises and manages a 24/7 maintenance operation, responding to emergency calls as necessary.
Manages employees, including assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring proper training, and making hiring, disciplinary, and termination recommendations.
Plans, coordinates, and supervises the maintenance, inspections, and repair of light rail vehicles and related equipment.
Develops and implements comprehensive inspection and preventive maintenance programs to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency.
Supervises consultants and contractors, ensuring high-quality work and adherence to project timelines.
Enforces safety protocols, conduct safety training, and ensure compliance with public safety and security procedures.
Diagnoses and resolve complex technical issues related to LRV maintenance, ensuring adherence to specifications and quality standards.
Serves as a liaison between internal departments, public agencies, external organizations, and stakeholders.
Assists in the development and management of departmental budgets, monitor expenditures, and recommend equipment purchases.
Conducts data analysis and make policy recommendations for improving maintenance operations and service reliability.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:
Education:
Associate degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Transportation Management, or a related field. Directly related experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Experience:
Seven (7) years of experience in heavy or light rail vehicle maintenance, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or management role
Three (3) years of electro-mechanical maintenance experience
Experience managing preventive maintenance programs, inspections, and repairs for transit vehicles and equipment.
Technical Expertise:
Strong knowledge of electro-mechanical systems, rail transit operations, and equipment maintenance
Experience in diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues related to LRV maintenance.
Background Investigation:
Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a background check.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Arizona Driver’s License with the ability to maintain insurability under Valley Metro’s vehicle insurance policy.
