Overview
Hampton Roads Transit is seeking Bus Transportation Supervisors to coordinate and direct the movement of public transit vehicles through the supervision of operators, radio and/or division dispatchers, and support personnel; monitor, coordinate, and direct the activities of the communication control center; and perform supervisory and administrative activities at transit operating divisions. Supervise personnel and ensure that scheduled and special services operate efficiently. Monitor the automatic vehicle location (CAD/AVL), system messages, mechanical alarms, emergency alarms and schedule adherence. Perform radio dispatching functions to ensure compliance with operating standards, provides supervision and to assist staff with problems.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Able to operate a radio system, to solve operator problems, react quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and adopt an effective course of action. Able to use independent judgment and initiative when faced with difficult or emergency situations. Able to speak clearly and concisely and understand views and concerns of others. Able to enter, correct and retrieve data using spreadsheets and word-processing software.

Training/Education/Experience:
Associate Degree in Business Management or Business Administration or related field. Five years transit experience or equivalent; one year experience radio dispatching; three years’ supervisory/management experience.
License:
CDL or commercial learner’s permit class B with air brake and passenger endorsement.
Unusual Demands:
Hours include holidays, weekends, overnight shifts (split shifts may be required). Shifts may be up to 10 hours a day or longer during emergencies.
