The Virginia Railway Express (VRE), a growing commuter rail operation connecting Washington, DC with Northern Virginia and surrounding counties, is in need of a Planning Program Manager, an experienced professional who will perform professional and technical work of broad scope and complexity to assist in the development, coordination, administration, and implementation of VRE services and capital improvements. This individual will function as a project manager for multiple system and capital planning projects and represents VRE interests in local, regional, and state transportation planning forums.

A strong portfolio of rail or transit planning experience and familiarity with VRE is highly desired. A Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Geography, Landscape, Architecture, or a closely related field is required. A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional planning experience, at least two (2) years of which have been as a lead planner or in a project management capacity required. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification as a Planner or certification as a Project Manager is also required; documented confirmation of working toward this required certification may be considered.

Must be able to work flexible hours demanded by a transit operation environment. Must also possess a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and maintain a safe driving record at all times during employment with VRE. Projected hiring range: $93,906.69 thru $125,000, depending upon prior experience and education.
