KL2 Connects LLC has been retained by Lafayette, Indiana’s CityBus to recruit the agency’s next General Manager and Chief Executive Officer. CityBus is the operating name for Greater Lafayette Public Transportation Corporation, a municipal corporation established in 1972. As a division of local government, CityBus is led by a Board of Directors, whose members are appointed by the mayors and city councils of Lafayette and West Lafayette.


The General Manager will be responsible for overseeing CityBus’s daily operations and shaping and leading its strategic short- and long-term vision. CityBus and its Board of Directors are committed to ensuring that the organization meets current and future needs of the community by providing increased transportation options without compromising the quality of service. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of successfully managing a small- or medium-size transit facility which provides the highest quality of service to its customers. He or she must be an outstanding leader with strong business; strategic planning; financial management; and public, community relations, and government relations skills. Also required are knowledge of federal procurement regulations, maintenance strategies (including but not limited to an understanding of various fuel options for the fleet); and safety, NTD, TRAMS, and Triennial Reviews.


This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in transportation, transportation management, business management or the equivalent (an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered) plus seven to ten years of executive-level management experience with a transit agency, operating organization, or other public or private entity of comparable complexity and size to CityBus. Transit industry experience is preferred, but experience from other industries will be considered.
