The Michigan Public Transit Association (MPTA) is accepting applications for the part-time contract position of Training and Support Coordinator for the remainder of fiscal year 2025 (through September 30, 2025). The contract may be eligible for extension(s) in future fiscal years. This position is funded in part by a federal grant to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and administered through the MPTA.
This part-time position is mostly a remote work role, with most coordination and meetings able to be done virtually via Zoom or Microsoft Teams. However, the position will require occasional in-person meetings at the MPTA’s offices in East Lansing as well as certain on-site work related to the in-person events held around the state of Michigan. Please note that eligible training-related travel within Michigan and direct expenses are reimbursable.
Specifically, this individual will develop and coordinate public transportation training programs around the state of Michigan; there are approximately 5-7 training programs throughout the year with varying degrees of involvement. The training and support coordinator will also draw upon transit experience to provide staff support to MPTA Committees, including the Rural Operators Committee, Urban Operators Committee, and Maintenance Committee. Finally, the training and support coordinator will contribute general transit expertise and input to MPTA’s programmatic work – specifically the evaluation and development of potential services in support of transit agencies. To fulfill these duties, the training and support coordinator is expected to attend several related public transit conferences and trainings in the state and nationally (expenses paid).
