Overview

The Maintenance of Way Manager oversee a maintenance team in charge of a right of way section in all its components – tracks / communication & signaling / building and bridges – while ensuring full compliance with all relevant regulations, standards and company procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Arranges for the materials, tools, and equipment required for the crews to perform their duties
    • Arranges for the protection of the workplace (RWP)
    • Prepares documentation of inspections performed and resources used (labor, material, equipment, and supplies)
    • Coordinates with Operations, Third Party Contractors, and the public agency
    • Inspects work methods and site conditions for safety conditions and efficiency of use of labor and material
    • Ensuring compliance with all contractual provisions, applicable regulations, company’s procedures, and budgets
    • Solve problems, respond to situations as they arise and deal with extraordinary conditions
    • Develop and maintains relevant maintenance procedures
    • Train employees in proper work methods
    • Develop and manage the overall maintenance budget
    • Participates in work activities to the extent consistent with supervision duties

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in railroad construction, maintenance and inspection in a mainline freight or commuter rail environment
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience supervising or directing the work of others engaged in railroad maintenance
    • Previously qualified with a railroad to provide workplace protection (49 CFR 214)
    • Must possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to produce and promote a safety culture
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Computer skills including proficiency with MS Office Suite applications
    • Demonstrated record keeping skills as per federal and company requirements
    • Ability to complete work under time pressures and to maintain composure under the stress of emergency situations
    • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, to walk at least 1 mile over tracks, lift a minimum of 50lbs, distinguish colors, hear warning signals and use communication devices (radio, telephone)
    • Ability to work in shift and on call
    • Must possess a valid driving license
    • High school diploma or GED
