The Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA) is responsible for promoting, sustaining, and expanding the availability of passenger and commuter rail service in the Commonwealth. The VPRA also provides funding to Virginia Railway Express (VRE) and administers all capital expansion projects, infrastructure, and land acquisitions related to the $3.7 billion Transforming Rail in Virginia initiative, which will double Amtrak and VRE service in Virginia over the next decade.

The Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA) seeks a Project Engineer to provide engineering expertise and support as well as project administration and project management support to the Engineering Manager and Project Managers responsible for delivery of the multi-billion dollar Transforming Rail in Virginia program of projects, including the Long Bridge project, Franconia-Springfield Bypass, and other mainline track and siding projects between Washington, DC and Richmond, VA. The Project Engineer also provides engineering oversight support for projects being implemented by the Virginia Railway Express. The Project Engineer reviews and responds to project plans and specifications and other project documents such as submittals and correspondence, as assigned. The Project Engineer conducts site visits as needed in the performance of his or her duties.

The Project Engineer assists with the procurement, management and oversight of engineering consultants including review of deliverables and invoices. The Project Engineer conducts research, prepares presentations and develops white papers on engineering-related matters, as assigned. The Project Engineer provides assistance to Project Managers and the Projects Controls Manager in the development and management of project schedules and budgets as well as project updates/status reports. This position can work from Richmond or Alexandria, VA. This position will report to the Engineering Manager.

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience. The compensation package for this position includes benefits equivalent to state employees of the Commonwealth including health/dental insurance and participation in the Virginia Retirement System.
