Overview

Santa Cruz METRO seeks well qualified candidates with relevant professional public purchasing management and leadership experience for the Purchasing Manager position. Santa Cruz METRO is a premier, medium-size transit agency that likes its communities to employment, schools, activity centers, and tourism destinations, providing fixed-route transit and para-transit services. Santa Cruz METRO provides local bus services on 26 routes, making 900 daily stops. Its rolling stock includes a fleet of 98 fixed route local buses and 32 para-transit vehicles that carry in excess of six million passengers annually.

Responsibilities

The Purchasing Manager reports to the Chief Financial Officer and will have the opportunity to serve a respected and highly valued transit provider located in one of the most desirable destinations in California. The Purchasing Manager’s role includes management of all contracting and purchasing for the transit agency, administration of complex purchasing activities that may be required and ensuring the agency’s strict compliance with Federal, State and local laws and regulations. Requirements

The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, finance, public administration, mathematics or a closely related field, with at least four (4) years of professional experience in public or private sector procurement to include at least two (2) years supervisory experience, preferably within a public agency. Familiarity with transit agency or transportation system activities and functions is highly desirable. Previous experience within a large public organization is preferred. A Certified Public Procurement Officer (CPPO) certification is desired. Completion of the NTI/FTA Procurement Training series is required, or the ability to obtain the requirement within one year of hire.
