Overview

Metro is seeking a Scheduler that will be responsible for executing the scheduling functions to ensure that service is provided in a safe, efficient, and cost effective. Scheduling responsibilities include the development and maintenance of fixed route schedules, operator work assignments, and route and system level analysis.

Responsibilities

– Research and analyze routes, running times, passenger loads, schedule efficiency and service effectiveness.
– Perform ride checks, corner checks, and trail checks as required.
– Perform field assessments to confirm running time assumptions as required.
– Conduct field assessments of bus stop conditions, locations, and amenities.
– Calculate and report vehicles, miles, hours, and trips operated for new and existing schedules.
– Determine daily vehicle and peak hour service requirements.
– Develop deadhead routing and running times.
– Prepare schedule headways, block paddles, run-cut summaries, run assignment lists, and garage boards.
– Compile data, prepare route summaries and descriptions of service changes.
– Distribute schedules and scheduling related data, including route turn sheets, as required.
– Perform functions associated with computerized schedule making, run cutting, and preparation of operator work assignments. Develop cost effective run-cuts.
– Resolve scheduling related customer service issues. Review turn lists and public schedules for completeness and accuracy.
– Complete special projects as assigned, including preparing routing and scheduling for special services.
– Participate and assist in the planning and development of transit service.
– Facilitate the development of strategies to meet or exceed organizational and department performance goals and objectives, monitor results, and recognize employee, department, and organization accomplishments.
– Model, facilitate and encourage exemplary internal and external customer service, open communication, collaboration, participation, and professional development among staff.

Requirements

Education
– Degree (four-year college or university) or minimum 10 years experience in transit planning, transit operations, or related field.

Experience
– Three to seven years related experience.

Skills & Abilities
– Able to multi-task, plan and measure results, create and analyze data, excellent computer skills, accuracy and attention to detail, excellent project management skills.
– Knowledge of automated planning and scheduling applications.
– Working knowledge of GIS.
– Proficiency with Microsoft work environment including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, internet, and email.
