Job Description

Responsibilities

Directs the work of staff on assigned shifts engaged in the repair and maintenance of fleet buses and non revenue vehicles. Ensures that safe and compliant work practices are maintained. Organizes and schedules planned and unplanned work to be performed.

Participates in the development, usage and ongoing accuracy of the shop work plan and how it relates to all maintenance activities in the shop.

Ensures sufficient staff are available to cover regular and emergency maintenance and repair situations.

Assigns vehicles to scheduled and non scheduled runs according to operational and maintenance requirements.

Responds to road calls from Transit Communications reporting vehicle break downs by dispatching appropriate staff.

Ensures equipment, labour and replacement parts are available.

Monitors quality and time spent on work performed to ensure meeting CMBC standards. Completes and checks all department forms and processes including charge numbers and warranty, deficiency and work order documentation.

Attends various committees and other meetings including safety or technical issues; providing input with respect to various maintenance issues.

Liaises with security as required to ensure fleet vehicles, garage facilities and other buildings are protected from acts of theft and vandalism.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Grade 12 graduation plus Successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship with Red Seal certification where applicable or equivalent program (electronic technician, engineering etc.) in the maintenance or management of heavy commercial vehicles and supplemented with courses in supervision from a recognized institution and computer usage.

Successful completion of the Commercial Vehicle Inspector examination (CVIP) course or possession of the CVIP inspector’s license is required.

Requires three (3) years experience working in a commercial vehicle fleet environment to gain all aspects of the maintenance, repair and service requirements.

A further period of six (6) months in the position is required to become familiar with the administrative responsibilities, CMBC organization, policies, procedures and supervisory responsibilities.

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Work Schedule

37.5 hours per week.

Work Designation

Resident – This position works predominately on-site.

Rate of Pay
Salary $114,657 – $138,141 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
