DESCRIPTION:
Trinity Metro has an immediate for a Technical Trainer to provide professional, administrative, and
technical support in meeting operator, driver and mechanic training needs. The incumbent
researches, recommends, designs, writes, revises, and implements bus/van operations training
within the company. The incumbent performs under the direction of the Director of Training. The
Technical Trainer performs route checks to determine bus and van safety, as well as monitors
operator performance during training.
This position’s responsibilities include:
Coordinate and maintain existing rail service and maintenance of equipment. Provide daily Designs,
develops, writes, revises, and conducts technical skills training programs for Trinity Metro employees;
prepares training manuals and other training materials, including presentations; training videos and programs.
Trains operators on the topics including, but not limited to: CNG; wheelchair tie-down and lift operations,
driving buses, vans or paratransit (Access), safety regulations; and customer service. Counsels operators in
areas needing improvement.
Conducts research, confers with management, union representatives, focus groups, and outside sources to
assess training needs; makes appropriate recommendations based on assessment of training needs.
Performs route checks for bus and passenger safety. Monitors the performance and adherence to safety
procedures by operators.
Develops and/or evaluates feedback from participants’ training experiences; implements appropriate follow-up; and evaluates and validates the effectiveness of training programs. Recommends appropriate action at
the conclusion of the training programs, e.g. graduation, termination, etc.
Develops and maintains necessary computerized files and records to document course attendance, test
results, training materials etc.; orders, creates and maintains stock of training materials.
Gathers data and writes reports to show correlation between training and on-the-job performance.
Maintains confidential information.
May be asked to participate in Trinity Metro’s community activities to promote transit.
May provide training outside of the organization as requested.
Performs other duties, as assigned.
EXPERIENCE
Ten years of relevant transportation experience in commuter rail, with heavy emphasis on the
management of contract rail transportation services.
Five years of demonstrated responsible experience in general management or supervisory capacity
with the transportation/operations department of a commuter railroad or intercity passenger railroad
(not rail transit).
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university within Public Administration, Urban
Affairs, Business Administration or similarly related degree. Master’s degree preferred.
Rules qualified or able to obtain qualification within six months of employment with either “Western
Rules” or other Class I Railroad Operating Rules and must maintain qualification.
Any combination of experience, training and/or education that provides the required knowledge,
abilities and skills may substitute for the required education.
