Overview

Direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for streetcar operations and activities; assign work activities and projects; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures.

Oversee streetcar operations, including all transit safety programs; ensure compliance with applicable Federal and State laws and regulations.

Oversee compliance with State of Michigan motor vehicle licensing and testing requirements and ensure that testing complies with applicable rules, regulations, and mandates.

Supervise and assist in the preparation of technical specifications for equipment procurement.

Review and evaluate proposed construction projects and plans; identify impact to streetcar operations; recommend and implement solutions.

Select, train, coach, motivate and evaluate streetcar personnel.

Assist in managing employee and labor relations with the Labor Relations and Training Director.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in public administration, business administration, transportation, or related field preferred

Five years of increasingly responsible experience managing and coordinating service-related operations, preferably in a transportation agency.

Three years of supervisory/management experience Experience working with labor agreements and managing a union workforce.

Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of fixed rail transit operations and associated FTA and State SSO safety and security requirements preferred.

Knowledge of rail mechanical and electrical functions preferred.
