The Senior Transit Planner performs work on all aspects of Transit Planning and Transit Operations related to the City of Scottsdale Transit System.


Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

-Works on all aspects of transit planning and transit operations in conjunction with contiguous jurisdictions.
Coordinates with Valley Metro, City of Phoenix and neighboring jurisdictions in transit planning and transit operations.
-Researches methodologies and best practices for transit, comprehends and makes inferences from materials.
-Uses mathematical calculations, analyzes transit data and draws logical conclusions.
-Works individually and with the team on GIS analyses for transit and para transit service.
-Develops transit cost estimates in the continual system evaluation.
-Analyzes and compiles technical and statistical information and writes technical reports.
-Plays a key role in Federal Transit Administration compliance, Title VI and National Transit Data Reporting.
-Participates in gathering and review required data and information during the Federal audit process.
-Coordinates the activities of transit team in gathering information and analyzing data.
-Participates in joint efforts with the traffic team and long-range planning on transportation planning problems and projects.
-Works closely with the public information officer, transit team and Valley Metro on public outreach.
-Participates in negotiations and audits of federal grants and third-party contracts.
-Works closely with procurement department on transit items such as Requests for Proposals (RFP), bus purchases, purchase orders, etc.
-Presents transit operations, technologies, systems, and network enhancements and opportunities to the Transportation Commission.
-Participates in the planning, development and implementation of the 5-Year Capital Improvement Plan. Updates the Title VI plan and all applicable related federal documents.
-Works closely with the Facilities Team and Construction & Project Management Team on bus stop refurbishments, bus stop relocation and bus stop improvements.
-Works closely with other departments and divisions on transit and other elements of transportation such as bikeways, paths, and trails.
-Prepares and presents written and verbal technical reports and makes recommendations to City staff, management, Transportation Commission, and City Council.

Education and Experience:

-A Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited educational institution.
-A minimum of three years’ experience in Transit Planning and Transit Operations,
-An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
-Preferred: Master’s Degree in Planning, Engineering or closely related field.
